Ben Finley (he/him) has been teaching guitar since 2002 to students of wide-ranging ages, levels, and stylistic interests. Through individually catered lessons, he strives to teach strong fundamentals and to help students gain creative tools in order to accomplish their musical goals.

Ben holds a Bachelor of Music degree in classical guitar performance from North Carolina School of the Arts (2001). He has been teaching with Portland Music Collective since 2014. Prior to moving to Portland he taught private lessons in studios in North Carolina, the Bay Area, and he spent two years working at the St. Lucia School of Music in the South Caribbean, where he taught music theory and ensembles as well as private lessons.

His performance and collaborative endeavors have included jazz, solo classical guitar, folk music, world musics, and accompaniment of modern dance and live installation art. Drawing from this eclectic background, Ben encourages students to explore varied styles, as well as composition and improvisation, while always keeping emphasis on having fun with music.
